NOW it’s over!

We’ve had plenty of people look over the sims this past week but it’s finally time to shut the doors. The sims will close to the public at 11.59pm July 2nd. Exhibitors then have till 11.59pm July 5th to pick up their builds. After that, everything on the sims will be returned. If you don’t want your exhibit  returned to your lost and found as one large lump, please pick up your build on the 2rd, 4th or 5th of July.

Thank you SL8B Cast, Crew and Community

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Second Life 8th Birthday for all your hard work and volunteerism.  You again stepped up and showed  true community spirit with your eagerness and dedication.

We would like to thank Linden Lab for support and sim space for us to celebrate again this year. This year’s gathering expressed the diversity of Second Life within our vast community, user created content, art and music.  It was truly humbling for me to see so much collaboration that the Second Life community shared for this event.

If you enjoyed the event and want to be a part next year,  keep an eye on the Second Life blogs and stay in the Second Life Birthday Group for notification of next year’s festivities.

It was an honor and my pleasure to once again work with all of you.

Cya next time….

It’s over……or IS it?

The parties are over. The stages are empty once more. The hardworking resident volunteers who organized and ran the stages have slunk off to recover a weeks worth of sleep. The amazingly cheerful greeters who handed out the goodies and helped you around the sims are asleep where they dropped, under the huge welcome area tree. As I push my broom around the stage floor (someone has to sweep up) I thank everyone who worked, planned, schemed and attended this Second Life 8th Birthday party.  SL8B wouldn’t have been what it was without the amazing input of all the volunteers that gave their time and efforts this year and it wouldn’t exist at ALL if not for the may exhibitors, DJs, artists and performers who built and partied and provided the content that filled these amazing 21 sims. A huge thank-you to you all.  And what would the point of SL8B be if not for everyone who came to view these amazing exhibits and partied 24/7 at our incredible stages or listened to our speakers at the auditorium. SL8B was Second Life’s Birthday, but you were all the guest of honour.

And of course a big thank you to Linden Lab who sponsored this event, and indeed created this world we enjoy warts and all. Happy Birthday Second Life – we couldn’t have done it without you!

The parties have finished now, but the exhibits are still around for another week. Come take a wander around the 21 sims in the quiet and marvel at the work of our exhibitors. The sims are open until 11.59pm, July 2nd.

Last Day for Stage Events

Wow time goes fast! It seems only the beginning of the week that we kicked off SL8B and here we are already with only one day of partying left! If you haven’t joined us yet, now is your last chance to party for SL8B on one of our awesome stages – Main, Cake, Park and DJ.

Although the parties are almost over, if you haven’t seen the exhibits, don’t panic. The sims will be open till July 2nd. This coming week is a great time to check out all the builds, as things will be quieter, meaning they rez faster!

Sands of Creation

One of the most magical things in Second Life for me is the ability to build and create things from nothing so this amazing build from Perefim Cao hits a special note for me. From the basic builds of a new resident learning to mash prims together for the first time to some of SLs top builds and builders, anyone here can create the content around us. The words in this exhibit say “It was within the first sandbox that the magic of creativity began within Second Life. From the sands of time the first creations rose to create the grid of today.”

The exhibit shows the hand of the creator rising from the sandbox, his (or her) creation coming to life in their hand. See it at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SL8B%20Pizzazz/177/138/22

The Machinarium

There are lots of machinima entries in this years birthday party and I think this is one of the best of them – The Machinarium. Made by Colemarie Soliel, it features  an outdoor movie theater in a deco style built by Groll Greggan and showcases her new video about the Magic of SL as she sees and feels it. Starting off slow and peaceful (when time was plentiful) it builds to a frenzy as the end date approaches. Shot over 2 weeks and helped by her sister, Colemarie edited for several days straight, finishing it 20 minutes before SL8B opened! Come sit in the comfy seats, grab some popcorn and watch magic of SL through Colemaries eyes.
